SARASOTA, Fla. (April 13, 2021) – Center For Sight is proud to announce the development of the first optometric residency program in Sarasota. The Residency in Ocular Disease with an emphasis in Cornea and Contact Lenses will offer the opportunity for emerging eye care providers to learn from the top optometrists and ophthalmologists in the country. The program is sponsored by Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry and pending accreditation through the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ASCO) and the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE).
The clinical curriculum includes direct patient care, the observation of care provided by specialized physicians, urgent care of patients, surgical observation, post-operative care of patients and contact lens fittings. Dr. Christine Bui will be the program’s first resident for the 2021-22 academic year. Dr. Bui is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University and will begin July 1 in the Sarasota office of Center For Sight.
“The Residency at Center For Sight is an opportunity to be exposed to a high volume of patients, use the most advanced technology, and learn from the nation’s top doctors. I am honored and overjoyed to have been matched with this program,” said Bui.
Dr. Lori Vollmer, an optometric physician at Center For Sight, is leading the program as Residency Program Coordinator following 16 years as a clinical professor at Nova Southeastern University. “It is my goal to provide outstanding clinical and surgical experiences for our Residents so they may become exceptional physicians. We seek to attract the highest qualified optometric graduates and train them to become outstanding providers in the communities they serve and the health care delivery system at large,” said Vollmer. “We do this by offering a multitude of clinical and surgical experiences, combined with access to sophisticated diagnostic equipment and the expertise of renowned clinicians. It is the perfect combination for an aspiring physician seeking to become immersed in their field of study.”
As one of the nation’s leading eye care practices, Center For Sight is committed to being at the forefront of education, innovation, research and recruitment. The practice aspires to offer one of the best residency programs in the country under Dr. Vollmer’s leadership.
